PORTLAND, Ore. — Former child actor Zachery Ty Bryan has been sentenced to 16 months in county jail in California after pleading guilty to driving under the influence.
Bryan, 44, is best known for playing Brad Taylor on the sitcom Home Improvement from 1991 to 1999. According to reports, he admitted to driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.15%, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08%.
A California judge declined to grant probation and imposed the 16-month sentence. Bryan was credited with 57 days already served.
Recent Legal Issues
Bryan was arrested in Lane County in December after an incident involving his fiancée, who authorities said attempted to run him over with a vehicle. Officials said Bryan was impaired at the time but was not injured. He was arrested on a parole violation related to a 2023 assault case. A hearing in that matter is scheduled for early March.
In July 2023, Bryan was charged with fourth-degree felony assault, third-degree robbery and harassment, and was ordered to serve seven days in jail.
In October 2020, he was arrested in Lane County following a domestic violence dispute and charged with fourth-degree assault and strangulation. He later pleaded guilty to misdemeanor menacing and misdemeanor assault.
Bryan is currently being held at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, California.
