A 41-year-old man from Junction City has been identified as the driver who died in a crash on Wednesday, March 18, on the Randy Papé Beltline in Eugene near the exit ramp to Interstate 5.

Kenneth Lee Gajda was traveling east around 5:20 p.m. in a Ford F-250 pickup when he first struck the side of a Lexus ES while exiting Beltline onto the southbound I-5 connector.

The Ford F-250 then broke through a guardrail and hit a power pole, shearing it, according to a news release from Eugene police.

The 65-year-old Junction City driver of the Lexus did not need hospital treatment. The crash forced the closure of the I-5 ramp, which did not fully reopen until 1:40 a.m. Thursday, an Oregon Department of Transportation spokesperson said.

Eugene police continue to investigate the crash.
