A Portland couple is facing multiple felony charges after a man was shot while leaning out of his apartment window in North Portland, according to police.
Shooting Incident in North Portland Leaves Man Injured
The incident occurred early Sunday morning around 4 a.m. at an apartment complex on North Willis Boulevard. Authorities said the victim was leaning out of an open window, attempting to toss a key to a friend below, when he was suddenly shot.
The man suffered a gunshot wound to the arm, but officials confirmed his injuries were not life-threatening.
Suspect Identified Following Argument
Investigators quickly identified 35-year-old Tony Rafael McDonald as the primary suspect. According to police, the shooting followed a dispute involving the victim and McDonald related to McDonald’s wife.
Court documents indicate that Tony McDonald and his wife, 45-year-old Lavon D. McDonald, had been unlawfully staying in a vacant unit within the same apartment building where the shooting occurred.
In a surprising detail from the investigation, authorities allege that after the shooting, McDonald approached the victim’s apartment and apologized through the door.
Both Suspects Arrested While Armed
Police later located the couple and took them into custody. Officers approached cautiously, believing the suspect was armed.
Authorities confirmed that both Tony and Lavon McDonald were carrying weapons at the time of their arrest but did not resist.
Charges Filed Against the Couple
Tony McDonald faces several serious charges, including:
- Attempted murder in the second degree
- Attempted assault (first and second degree)
- Unlawful use of a weapon
- Felon in possession of a firearm
