A man was hospitalized after being attacked by a loose dog in a residential neighborhood in Eugene, Oregon, authorities said.
According to the Eugene Police Department, the incident occurred Monday evening along a pathway near Burlington Drive in the Churchill area. The 47-year-old victim managed to escape the attack and reach a nearby home in the 2200 block of Burlington Drive, where he sought help.
Emergency crews from Eugene Springfield Fire and police responded around 5:38 p.m. on April 27. The man was transported to a hospital in emergency condition, though officials said his injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Police searched the surrounding area but were unable to locate the dog. Residents nearby have been alerted as officers continue working to obtain a description of the animal.
Authorities are asking anyone with surveillance footage or information about the dog to come forward as the investigation continues.
Officials also advised the public to use caution if encountering an aggressive dog — avoid direct eye contact, back away slowly, and protect vital areas if attacked.
