A police officer in Portland has been placed on administrative leave after allegedly failing to report that he was shot at while off duty earlier this year.
According to officials, Diego Ortiz Hernandez left the scene of a January shooting incident in Hood River without contacting emergency services or notifying local law enforcement.
Authorities say the officer also did not inform his supervisors at the Portland Police Bureau about the incident. The situation only came to light after homicide investigators from Hood River approached the bureau and interviewed him as part of their investigation.
The case has now triggered an internal review into the officer’s actions and whether department policies were violated.
Officials have not released further details about the circumstances of the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.
