A pair from Summerfield landed in jail after allegedly stealing $50 worth of items from Wawa.

At 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, an officer responded to Wawa, situated at 11770 N U.S. 301 in Oxford, for a report of a retail theft, according to an arrest record from the Wildwood Police Department. When an employee arrived, he hurried out and pointed out Iris Arcely Fajardo Sagastume, 37, and Gabriel Angel Rodriguez, 37, who were driving a white Toyota Corolla out of the parking lot.

The officer was able to halt the couple on County Road 466 at its intersection with County Road 201. They were asked to leave, while another officer returned to Wawa to speak with the employee. According to the report, police discovered that Fajardo Sagastume and Rodriguez took various goods and fled the store without paying the $50.73 owing.

Fajardo Sagastume exercised her right to remain silent and did not respond to any queries. Rodriguez later confirmed that he had stolen the contents of a grey plastic bag in the backseat from Wawa. He added that he was “down bad” from getting fired a few weeks previously, since he had no food at home, according to the report.

Both were arrested on charges of petit theft and brought into the Sumter County Detention Center, with bail set at $500 each.
