El Mirage police said Monday what happened prior to a shooting that killed a 17-year-old and incarcerated another 17.
According to detectives, Schiloh Albin Niyibizi and Ashtin Evans met on the night of April 27 to conduct a firearms sale.
At before 8 p.m., Niyibizi shot Evans outside a home on Dreyfus Drive near Thunderbird and El Mirage roads. Evans was taken to the hospital and ultimately died.
Police said Niyibizi was also shot, but they did not elaborate. He was eventually captured and booked into jail on charges of second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and other offenses.
Investigators reported finding two weapons at the location.
Evans, one of five children, attended Dysart High School and played on the football team. A vigil for Evans was organized on Tuesday in Buena Vida Park, just a few blocks from the shooting location.
