A Columbia vape shop has shuttered after the owner was indicted in March on over 40 counts of unlawful marijuana sales.

Jay’s Vape Shop and Wellness Center has closed, according to a sign on the front door of the Gadsen Street location.

The closure comes after owner Jay Kalin was charged on March 26 with 42 charges of possession with intent to distribute marijuana and THC.

Kalin’s arrest was part of the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office’s bigger “Operation Ganjapreneur,” which resulted in the arrest of 12 persons on 70 charges of illicit narcotics possession and selling.

Kalin was not among the original 12 people arrested in December 2025.

According to the attorney general’s office, law enforcement agents raided Kalin’s shop on December 9, 2025, and allegedly seized more than 10 pounds of unlawful THC.

As of May 4, state business papers show that Jay’s Vape Shop and Wellness did not have a current business license.

WIS has contacted the City of Columbia for more information on Kalin’s licenses, including his bar on Gervais Street. The South Carolina Department of Revenue records reveal that the bar’s alcohol license has been suspended since April 3.
