A Silver Spring construction worker won the top prize of $100,000 on a Maryland Lottery scratch-off after stopping for gas at a 7-Eleven near Pikesville, Maryland.

According to the Maryland Lottery, the individual frequently purchases scratch-offs at gas stations and recently won approximately $1,000 over several weeks before exposing the winning ticket during a stop at the 7-Eleven at 1801 Reisterstown Road.

The winner claimed the reward on May 8 at lottery headquarters in Baltimore and stated that he intends to use the money to buy land in his native El Salvador. According to lottery authorities, the winning ticket was the first to capture the top prize from the scratch-off since the game began in April. The 7-Eleven that sold the ticket will be awarded a $1,000 bonus.
