A 39-year-old Ocala man was apprehended over the weekend for allegedly entering an employee-only area of a local McDonald’s and striking two employees with a dustpan.

On Sunday, May 17, deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to the McDonald’s at 8240 SW Highway 200 in Ocala due to a disturbance.

According to the arrest complaint, an employee told investigators that a man, later identified as Jonathan Bones, approached the counter, entered the personnel-only part of the kitchen, and snatched a Happy Meal. Bones allegedly threatened to beat the staff if he did not receive his drink within five seconds.

The report indicated that Bones returned to the restricted employee area, picked up a dustpan, and “got in the face” of another employee. When the first employee attempted to separate Bones and the coworker, Bones allegedly attacked both of them several times with the dustpan.

One of the staff stumbled backward and hit their foot on a beverage machine. Furthermore, both employees suffered significant and distinct bruises on their arms and hands, according to the report.

Deputies used security footage and a vehicle tag to identify Bones as the suspect in this instance, and he was apprehended at his Ocala home. When deputies arrived to the house, Bones allegedly said, “I know it was wrong; I walked right behind the register.”

Bones was then taken under arrest. During a pat-down search, Bones was reportedly found with a vaping device that tested positive for THC.

Bones was taken to Marion County Jail and charged with burglary with assault or battery, a felony, as well as misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He is still in custody, and his bond has been set at $6,000.

According to jail records, Bones’ court date has not yet been scheduled.
