A New Yorker wanted on a warrant was apprehended at a restaurant in Wildwood.

Joseph Arthur Kelder, 23, of Congers, New York, was driving a white Mazda at around 10:30 p.m. According to an arrest record from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, he was pulled over on State Road 44 near its intersection with Interstate 75 on May 18 after a check of the Florida license plate revealed that the registered owner did not have a driver’s license. A traffic stop was started in the parking lot of the Hardee’s restaurant on State Road 44.

Kelder presented the officer with a New York driver’s license and stated that the vehicle he was driving was rented. The deputy ran Kelder’s driver’s license and discovered that he was sought on a Hillsborough County warrant for fleeing to avoid law enforcement and careless driving. The warrant was issued three days earlier.

Kelder was arrested and jailed without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.
