A customer has been sentenced for refusing to pay his bill at a restaurant in The Villages.

Paul Greer Szymanski, 76, of Lady Lake’s Water Oak subdivision, was sentenced to six months probation after pleading no guilty to a trespassing charge in Sumter County Court last week.

He refused to pay his tab at Darrell’s Diner in Southern Trace Plaza around noon on April 4, according to a Sumter County Sheriff’s Office arrest report. Szymanski alleged that the restaurant was breaching an unnamed federal law.

Law enforcement was brought to the scene, and Szymanski eventually paid his tab but remained unhelpful. He was instructed to leave the restaurant but refused. Szymanski was arrested for trespassing after being warned three times to leave and refusing to do so.
