Law enforcement officials have taken into custody and extradited a man to Lake County in connection with the 2025 killing of a Eustis woman.
Monica Islam’s body was discovered in Mount Dora on May 2, 2025, after her daughter reported her missing.
Lake County sheriff’s detectives suspect Islam left with her brother-in-law, Shahidul Islam, from the convenience store where she worked. Her body was discovered sometime afterward.
Shahidul Islam is thought to have escaped to New York immediately after Monica Islam died. According to detectives, a search of his automobile revealed blood traces that appear to match Islam’s DNA.
When investigators discovered that Shahidul had an active federal immigration warrant, they requested assistance from the US Marshals Service in locating him. On May 6, agents took him into custody.
Detectives suspect the death was motivated by an ongoing disagreement about property in Bangladesh, their home country. They learned there was an incident in 2024 where Monica Islam’s husband, Rashedul Islam, hit her and stole jewelry and property documents, while Shahidul, Rashedul’s brother, held a gun to her head and told her not to call 911.
