A woman who flew from Oregon to Kentucky with 75 pounds of high-potency marijuana was taken into custody this week.
Danielle M. Mensah, a 30-year-old with addresses in Worcester, Massachusetts, and Charlotte, North Carolina, allegedly booked an Uber after arriving in Kentucky and took her and the marijuana to Bowling Green.
Kentucky State Police apprehended her later that day without incident, discovering her history of marijuana trafficking in Portland.
According to court documents obtained by KOIN 6 News, Mensah attempted to board an aircraft from Portland International Airport to John F. Kennedy International Airport in 2023. A Delta Airlines employee reportedly smelled a strong marijuana odor coming from her suitcase. Detectives say they later discovered approximately 29 pounds of marijuana in her baggage.
Mensah pleaded guilty in 2023 to one misdemeanor count of illegally importing or exporting marijuana.
According to a representative for the Bowling Green-Warren County Drug Task Force, the approximately 75 pounds of high-potency marijuana are estimated to be worth $150,000 on the streets.
Mensah was booked into Warren County Regional Jail pending her arraignment. The bond was set at $25,000 cash. According to jail records, she paid bail and was released on June 3.
