A man has been apprehended and charged with the death of a transgender woman whose body was discovered in Brays Bayou last month, according to the Houston Police Department.

Daniel Arnulfo Ceron, 22, faces murder charges in the death of Persia Amarra Conway, 33.

According to Houston police, people walking along 8950 Country Creek Drive discovered Conway’s body in a stormwater catch basin next to the bayou about 8:15 a.m. on May 25. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

Further inquiry revealed Ceron to be a person of interest in this case.

The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office’s Burglary/Theft Unit then arrested Ceron in connection with a number of burglaries in the county.

After realizing he was a person of interest in the HPD Homicide case, FBCSO Investigators contacted HPD, which resulted in a confession. During an interview, he admitted his role in Conway’s death.

Ceron was detained on Wednesday by the Houston Police Department’s Westside Division Gang Unit.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences has classified the deceased as homicide. The HPD homicide investigation is underway.
