A woman’s body was discovered in the desert by a group of hikers on Sunday.
According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, just before 2 p.m. on June 11, family members in Mexico reported that their 26-year-old daughter was walking from Mexico into the desert.
They last heard from her the day before, when she said she wasn’t feeling well and that the group she was traveling with had left her behind.
Deputies searched for the woman using locations provided by her family but were unable to locate her.
On June 14, a group of hikers discovered an unresponsive woman lying beneath a tree. Deputies identified the victim as the same woman who had earlier been reported missing.
According to officials, the woman was discovered dead in a wash near Interstate 8 and Vekol Valley.
