On This Post

A man was killed Saturday morning in a shooting at Northeast Portland’s Rocky Butte Natural Area, police said.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting at the city park on Northeast Rocky Butte Road, the Portland Police Bureau said. They found a man who had been shot, and emergency responders tried lifesaving measures, but he died at the scene, police said.

Officers detained one man near the scene and are working to determine whether he was involved. Police believe other witnesses may have left the scene after the shooting.

Northeast Rocky Butte Road remains closed at both entrances while the homicide unit investigates, and officers are escorting residents to their homes within the blocked area.

If the death is ruled a homicide, it would mark Portland’s 12th of 2026.

Police are asking anyone with information to submit a tip online or call 503-823-0479, referencing case No. 26-171254.
