Local law enforcement authorities in Ohio and Indiana are investigating the death of a woman, whose body was discovered inside a crashed semi Wednesday night.
The semi is still at the site hours after a crash on National Road near the Ohio-Indiana border, but authorities say the incident has raised suspicions.
Around 8:20 p.m., Wayne County Sheriff’s Department deputies discovered a woman dead inside a semi that had crashed on the ramp from US-40 to westbound Interstate 70.
The man operating the truck was discovered at the neighbouring Petro Travel Centre.
He allegedly resisted arrest but was eventually apprehended and sent to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries.
However, before he was arrested, police claim he made statements that led them to believe the woman’s death was not caused by the crash.
Her body has been taken to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for autopsy. The Wayne County Coroner’s Office reports that “evidence indicates foul play is involved.”
“This is a deeply tragic case, and our thoughts are with the deceased’s family during this difficult time,” says Wayne County Coroner Brent Meadows. “Our office is dedicated to conducting a comprehensive and professional investigation with our law enforcement partners. We ask for your patience and respect while we try to confirm identity and notify families.”
