A 93-year-old driver has been charged with hitting and killing a motorcyclist in Washington County last year.

According to court documents, 93-year-old William Johnston of Wellsburg, West Virginia, has been charged with vehicular murder for the death of 67-year-old John Dinsmore of McDonald on Millers Run Road in Cecil Township in October.

According to the criminal complaint, the driver behind Johnston informed police that just before 6 p.m. on October 6, Johnston swerved in his Lexus SUV. The witness informed police that as he reached the railroad tracks, Johnston abruptly swerved left into the lane, colliding with Dinsmore’s Harley-Davidson.

According to Cecil Township police, when officers arrived, they discovered Dinsmore’s motorcycle on the railroad tracks and Johnston’s SUV nearby. Police claimed a “large amount of debris” was thrown around the crash scene, and Dinsmore was discovered “badly injured.” He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Johnston told officers that when driving down Millers Run Road, the front end of his car rose up, and he felt he was going to flip. He was wearing spectacles at the time and claimed he didn’t see any vehicles, police added.

According to court documents, a preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 13.
