A 67-year-old resident of the Village of Duval was apprehended Friday after a domestic disturbance at her home.
Deputies from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office arrested Machiel Ann Marino after responding to her apartment at 5:30 p.m.
According to the police report, Marino had been drinking all day. A verbal disagreement at home erupted when Marino allegedly threw a cell phone, injuring a 71-year-old man in the lower chest. When the man attempted to contact the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, Marino allegedly grabbed him by the neck in an attempt to take the phone away.
Witnesses on the scene, including another woman and a friend, confirmed the account. They told deputies that Marino threw the phone at the man and grabbed the other woman by the left arm during the altercation. Witnesses stated that Marino was “irate.”
Marino was booked into the Sumter County Detention Center on charges of battery and battery against a person 65 years or older. She was released after paying a $3,000 bond.
