A Chicago man has learned his fate after pleading guilty to the attempted murder of a woman with whom he had a romantic involvement, the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office stated on Monday.
After pleading guilty to the felony charge in December 2025, a county judge sentenced 53-year-old Willie Tidwell to 20 years in prison. Years ago, on September 10, 2022, authorities claim Tidwell went to the Extended Stay in Naperville, where the victim was staying.
According to authorities, an argument in a hotel room got violent after Tidwell accused the victim of ignoring his phone calls and blocking his number. After continuously assaulting the woman, Tidwell allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed her 11 times in the stomach, neck, and chest. He then left the scene.
Tidwell was arrested some weeks later. He has been in DuPage County Jail since October 2022.
Tidwell will have to serve 85% of his sentence before being eligible for release.
