A Lakeland funeral home owner was taken into custody on July 4 after officials claimed he used emergency lights on the Clearwater Memorial Causeway Bridge, leading motorists to believe he was a law enforcement officer.
According to an arrest document, Reginald Cannon, 40, the owner of Cannon Funeral Home, was driving a black SUV through heavy traffic when flashing lights mounted on the vehicle’s grille and dashboard prompted traffic to stop. An officer claimed that the lights looked like red emergency lights.
According to investigators, Cannon admitted that drivers moved aside because they thought he was a police officer. Cannon reportedly told cops that he was trying to reach a fishing excursion while caught in traffic.
Cannon was charged with falsely impersonating an officer.
