A 21-year-old woman is seriously injured after being shot in the head outside a house party in Woonsocket early Sunday morning.
Police responded to reports of shots fired on Cooper Avenue shortly before 1:30 a.m.
Police described the massive gathering as “uncooperative” and “hostile.”
They discovered the injured woman on the ground, and while they were aiding her, a second female who identified herself as her sister approached cops with a gunshot wound in her leg.
Both were sent to Rhode Island Hospital, and as of Sunday afternoon, the 21-year-old woman was in critical condition.
Multiple neighbors around the residence at 100 Cooper Avenue have said that the residents are frequently loud and belligerent.
A neighboring resident reported the event from her window.”A group of kids, about 15 or 20, went down the road and came back up,” she explained. “My bedroom is right here, so when I heard the noise I looked out and just about the time I looked out, I heard five gunshots and the kids were just flying everywhere.”
A K-9 unit was able to locate a suspect who had left Cooper Avenue on foot. The 17-year-old suspect was apprehended nearby, and officers discovered a semi-automatic weapon in a nearby thicket.
He was accused with possessing a firearm by a minor, carrying a pistol without a permit, receiving stolen goods, and obstructing justice.
He was ordered to remain at the Rhode Island Training School until his hearing in Family Court on Monday. An investigation is ongoing.
