A Dallas man and convicted criminal has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for a firearms violation related to the violent robbery of a rideshare driver, federal officials revealed Tuesday.

Antonio Detravion Woodard Jr., 24, pled guilty to felon in possession of a handgun and was sentenced to 180 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Richard Schell on Monday, according to U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs for the Eastern District of Texas.

“This is a robbery”

According to evidence produced in court, the incident occurred on January 10, 2025, after Woodard requested a ride via the Lyft app.

When the Lyft driver arrived, Woodard took out a weapon and told him, “This is a robbery.” Woodard requested the driver for access to his Cash App and Wallet. When Woodard opened the wallet, he noticed that the victim did not have any cash. Woodard became enraged and insisted that the victim “not tell the police what happened.”

The driver was able to discreetly activate the Lyft application’s emergency safety feature, alerting local law police to the situation. Subsequent background checks revealed that Woodard was a previously convicted felon, making possessing a handgun a federal offense.
