Two Alabama teenagers were taken into custody Monday afternoon in Walton County, Florida, after a motorist reported seeing a passenger wave a handgun out the window of a car on Highway 98.
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office received a call just after 2 p.m. about an older model gray Nissan Sentra with an Alabama license plate near Inlet Beach. A deputy located the vehicle shortly after, near the intersection of Highway 98 and County Highway 293, and conducted a traffic stop as it turned northbound onto Highway 331 South.
Deputies detained the driver, 17-year-old Jonathan Ean Smith of Greenville, Alabama, and his passenger, 16-year-old Gabriel Josiah Crysell of Honoraville, Alabama.
During the search, officers discovered a loaded weapon. 40-caliber Glock in Crysell’s waistband. A search of the car turned up a black backpack with a second loaded. 40-caliber Glock, alcohol, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Deputies also confiscated $3,900 in cash from inside the vehicle.
Smith was charged with possessing a firearm under the age of 18, possessing cannabis, possessing alcohol under the age of 21, and possessing drug paraphernalia.
Crysell is charged with removing a serial number from a firearm, possessing a firearm under the age of 18, possessing cannabis, possessing alcohol under the age of 21, and possessing drug paraphernalia.
Both teenagers were taken to the Walton County Jail for booking before being transferred to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Crestview.
