A woman who admitted to shooting her 12-year-old son during a failed murder-suicide attempt in Deer Park has received a 10- to 15-year prison sentence.
Briasha Stroud was sentenced on Thursday after pleading guilty last month to attempted murder.
Prosecutors claim Stroud shot her son at point-blank range when the two were in a car in January 2025. She then shot herself in the chest.
Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich stated that the boy survived but sustained severe, permanent injuries.
“This was an unimaginable act of violence against a defenseless child,” Pillich said in a statement. “No sentence can undo the devastating injuries this young victim has endured, but today’s sentence reflects the seriousness of this horrific crime.”
Prosecutors claimed the child is still alive but has suffered terrible, life-altering damage. According to authorities, if he dies as a result of his injuries, Stroud might face a murder prosecution despite her guilty plea.
The boy has now been placed in foster care.
