A multi-agency operation targeting narcotics traffickers in Central Florida resulted in the arrest of about 49 people, law enforcement officials reported Thursday.
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier joined Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood, Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young, and Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly to discuss Operation Ice Breaker.
“Operation Ice Breaker II demonstrates the tireless work of our detectives and the strength of our partnerships,” stated Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young. “Drug trafficking promotes violence, addiction, and other crimes that have a negative influence on our community’s quality of life. By dismantling this organization, we have made Daytona Beach a safer place and given a strong message that anyone who chose to traffic illegal narcotics here will face consequences.”
The investigation lasted from the fall of 2025 until June 30, 2026, and targeted distribution networks that trafficked fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, and other illegal substances.
The networks were active in Volusia, Flagler, St. Johns, Marion, and Orange counties, according to law enforcement.
The Daytona Beach Police Department and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office made the arrests.
“This work is never done, but thanks to a relentless approach and a lot of great teamwork, Volusia County is better off today with another set of scumbag drug dealers locked up,” said Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood. “Behind bars, they’re no longer merchants of death in our community.”
Additional arrests are expected as the investigation progresses.
