Multiple suspects have been apprehended in connection with the July 4 mass shooting in Centreville, Mississippi, which killed two people and injured seven more.
The Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday that Kaden Anderson, 19, of Clinton, Louisiana, had been arrested. He was arrested by the Louisiana State Police Fugitive Task Force for his alleged involvement in the shooting.
Officials also detained Zavier Augustine, Christian Johnson, and Zychavion VanNorman in connection with the shooting. The sheriff’s office did not immediately publicize the accusations against them.
At the same time, the United States Marshals Service apprehended Larry Smith Jr., 23, at an apartment complex in Columbus, Ohio. Smith was wanted for two counts of murder, seven counts of felony assault, and ten counts of drive-by shooting. According to the US Marshals Service, Smith is being jailed while awaiting extradition to Mississippi.
The shooting took place around 12:55 a.m. on July 4 near the Orchard Café on Highway 24 in Centreville. The sheriff’s office reported that nine people with gunshot wounds arrived at a local hospital in private cars.
Two guys died as a result of their injuries; three were transported to a trauma hospital for treatment; and four were treated and released.
The Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office stated that investigators from local, state, and federal authorities collaborated to identify individuals responsible.
The investigation is still underway, and the WCSO anticipates additional arrests and charges.
