An 11-month investigation that ended in June resulted in the arrest of multiple people allegedly involved in the illegal drug and firearms trade in San Diego, police said Tuesday.
The San Diego Police Department reported that detectives discovered many homes and vehicles in City Heights, Downtown San Diego, and Pacific Beach that were being utilized to manufacture, store, and transport illegal firearms and drugs.
Police said the suspects utilized Instagram to sell drugs to college students and manufacture illicit guns.
During the investigation, police executed 15 search warrants for houses, cars, and social media accounts around San Diego County, arresting seven people on felony charges.
They also seized over a kilogram of cocaine, eight gallon-sized bags of marijuana, five gallon-sized bags of psilocybin mushrooms, 630 Xanax and Percocet tablets, digital scales, and more than $40,000 in cash.
Officers also seized 16 firearms, including rifles with unlawful modifications, high-capacity magazines, ammo, gun build kits, and bulletproof vests and helmets.
The San Diego District Attorney’s Office, the San Diego Police Department, and numerous other task teams worked together to conduct the investigation.
