A homeless man was taken into custody for trespassing after being discovered sleeping on a bench in a shopping complex in The Villages.

Around 3:30 p.m. Monday, an officer arrived to La Plaza Grande in Spanish Springs to investigate a trespasser, according to a Lady Lake Police Department arrest record. The complainant said that 64-year-old David Francis Bobeck had been sleeping on a bench since earlier in the day. The caller wanted him removed.

A check of Bobeck’s information revealed that he had previously been trespassed on May 2, 2024. When conversing with law officers, he smelled of alcohol and slurred his words. He also wavered while standing and used items as support, according to the report.

He also received a notice to appear for trespassing at the same location the previous night. He had been taken to UF Health of The Villages, where he was treated and released. He then returned to the retail plaza and began drinking, according to the complaint.

Following a warning, Bobeck was detained for trespassing. He was booked into the Lake County Jail, and bond was set at $1,500.

The Illinois native was also arrested in August 2025 at Panera Bread and in May 2024 at Publix.
