A run to the convenience store turned into a momentous day for a Chicago mother, who won a large Illinois Lottery win with a $5 ticket.
According to the Illinois Lottery, the woman bought a $5 “In the Money” scratch-off ticket from California Enterprises in the Gage Park neighborhood earlier this month.
The mom recognized she had won large but couldn’t believe it.
“I believed I was losing my sanity. “I lost count of how many times I checked the results,” she explained.
She scanned her ticket several times on a kiosk in the store before scanning it again with her Illinois Lottery app. The scans all yielded the same result: she had won the game’s top prize of $400,000.
After claiming her reward, the mother of three knows exactly what she intends to do with the money. She intends to invest in her children’s education and will surprise them with a back-to-school shopping spree before they return to class.
