A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of a wanted man Saturday evening, August 22, after a Horizon City police officer observed a car driving at 80 mph in a 45-mph zone.
A Horizon City Police Department officer patrolling in the 14000 block of Eastlake Boulevard observed a vehicle traveling more than 35 mph over the posted speed limit and initiated a traffic stop.
The driver was identified as 44-year-old Omar Alejandro Lopez-Benitez. During the investigation, investigators discovered that Lopez-Benitez had several outstanding warrants.
According to officers, the warrants included three Horizon City Municipal Court traffic warrants at $680.10, four Justice of the Peace traffic warrants, and an outstanding criminal warrant for issuing a bad check.
After checking the outstanding warrants, authorities apprehended Lopez-Benitez at the spot without incident. He was eventually transported to the El Paso County Detention Facility, where he was detained on outstanding warrants.
