The head of a Lexington County elementary school’s PTO is now charged with stealing more than $20,000 in school monies.
Cassandra Hanvey, 36, was charged with breach of trust on Tuesday, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.
Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon stated in a statement that Carolina Springs Elementary School informed the department that Hanvey, the school’s PTO president, acknowledged to utilizing the organization’s finances for personal purposes.
A document of an arrest warrant acquired by WIS shows that Hanvey spent $20,057.89 between June 2023 and June 2026. According to the documents, she spent the money on groceries, nail treatments, restaurants, hotel stays, and “other unauthorized items.”
The warrant further alleges that Hanvey admitted to abusing the funds.
According to the sheriff’s department, Hanvey turned herself in on Sunday morning and was lodged into the Lexington County Detention Center.
She has since been released under bond.
