The Oregon Department of Forestry and U.S. Forest Service were responding to a wildfire on Wednesday, Aug. 26, close to Hills Creek Reservoir, roughly 15 miles south of Oakridge.
According to early reports from the disaster-tracking app Watch Duty, the fire ignited at approximately 2:15 p.m. and was under one acre in size. Tower cameras operated by Oregon Hazards Lab captured a sizable plume of smoke climbing into the air near the reservoir in the Willamette National Forest.
The forestry department deployed three engines, a bulldozer, and a helicopter to the scene. The U.S. Forest Service, which holds primary jurisdiction over the land where the flames are spreading, had not yet returned calls from Lookout Eugene-Springfield as of the report.
