Three people, including two teenagers, have been arrested in connection with a homicide that occurred last weekend in the Short North.
The Columbus Division of Police announced on Thursday that SWAT personnel had detained 19-year-old Massamba Dieye and two younger teens, aged 16 and 17.
The three are suspected of shooting Tiegiaion Clement, 20, who died.
Investigators said Columbus police officers heard gunfire at 3:10 a.m. on August 23 in the 1000 block of North High Street.
When authorities arrived, they discovered a man named Clement with a gunshot wound. He was brought to Grant Medical Center and died from his injuries.
According to court records, detectives examined surveillance footage that showed Dieye wandering around with an assault rifle strapped over his shoulder for hours in the location where the incident took place. Around 2:55 a.m. Dieye and two other youths were seen engaging with Clement and his buddies. According to the affidavit, the video shows Dieye and the 16-year-old suspect acting as lookouts, while the 17-year-old suspect walks out of sight to where shots were fired around 3:08 a.m. The shooting sparked increased concerns about safety along High Street.
One homeowner told 10TV that he feels safe living in the Short North, but tries to get home by 2 a.m. Three people were charged with murder, according to court records. A prosecutor submitted a motion on Friday to have the two teenagers tried as adults.
Dieye appeared in court on Friday morning, and his bond was set at $4 million.
