Four people were sent to the hospital after a high-speed incident at a Milwaukie crossroads early Saturday, two of whom had significant injuries, according to police.
According to Milwaukie Police, the two-vehicle incident occurred around 1:40 a.m. on August 30 at the junction of Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard and Southeast 17th Avenue.
A Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office deputy on normal patrol reported the collision to Milwaukie police. The deputy stated that a car heading southbound on Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard at a high speed collided with an SUV at the intersection.
Milwaukie police officers and Clackamas Fire arrived to help, assess, and care for injured drivers. All three occupants of the SUV were transported to area hospitals, with two suffering critical injuries. The driver of the car was also taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.
Clackamas County Crime Reconstruction and Forensic Technicians (CRAFT) responded to investigate. According to initial findings, the speeding sedan failed to stop at a red light on Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard and collided with the SUV as it was making a legal turn across oncoming lanes of traffic. According to police, speed is a contributing factor in the incident.
The intersection remained closed for several hours while detectives processed the area before reopening.
