A 34-year-old man was apprehended on Wednesday morning in Miami-Dade County after a detective accused him of murdering a man in 2024 outside the Big Boy Market, a convenience store near Buccaneer Park in Miami Gardens, according to records.
A surveillance video shows Serge Jean Jr. “on the sidewalk hanging out in front of the store” on Nov. 21, 2024, at 3185 NW 207 St., near the Hard Rock Stadium, according to the Miami Gardens homicide detective’s warrant request.
Witnesses reported a shooting. According to the affidavit supporting the warrant, when police arrived, Jean was in a “prone position… conscious and alert… unable to move.”
According to the document supporting the warrant, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue workers flew Jean to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, where he died on December 10, 2024, due to wound complications.
Before his death, Jean identified his murderer as “Von,” according to records.
According to the arrest warrant signed on March 12 by Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Cristina Miranda, surveillance video shows Devon Clarke entering at the store as the passenger of a black Nissan Maxima.
According to the arrest request, homicide police believe Jean hit Clarke, who then staggered backward before drawing a revolver and firing at Jean.
Jean attempted to flee, but Clarke fired again, shot him in the back, and he dropped face down, according to the arrest warrant.
According to the arrest request, Clarke caught up with Jean and shot him three times in the head at close range before fleeing in the Nissan Maxima.
Clarke was handcuffed around a year and nine months later, according to authorities.
Clarke was detained by Miami Gardens police officers about 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at 3620 NW 211 St., according to a police report.
According to inmate records, Clarke was booked by Miami-Dade County Corrections soon after 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Clarke was accused with second-degree murder with a weapon, according to Miami-Dade County court records. He was denied a bond.
Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Carmen Cabarga was scheduled to rule over the case.
