Texas Man Charged After Mother’s Body Discovered Stuffed In Duffel Bag

A 34-year-old Texas man is facing murder charges after officials discovered his elderly mother’s body hidden inside a duffel bag during a welfare check at her home.

Arman Malik has been charged with murder and tampering with a human corpse in connection with the death of Dyna Guadalupe Sorto De Malik, 73, according to court records.

Deputies from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office forced entry into the home at 10 p.m. on Tuesday. Relatives had requested the welfare check after failing to contact Dyna Malik since the previous Saturday.

Upon entering, deputies discovered Arman Malik, who had recently moved into the house, sleeping in a bedroom. Investigators discovered Dyna Malik’s body in a room across the hall, inside a large black duffel bag wrapped in bloody sheets and a rug.

According to court filings, detectives discovered blood in the room and three home security cameras that looked to have been moved or turned off. Detectives suspect the body had been hidden within the house for a long time, though the exact timeline of her death has not been determined.

Malik was booked into county jail on Monday. During his next court appearance, a judge set his bond at $500,000 for each offense, for a total of $1 million.

The medical examiner is still determining the victim’s official cause and manner of death.
