A 4-year-old boy who had been missing from the Cleveland region since March 18, 2026, has been discovered safe in Southern California, federal authorities announced.
The child’s mother first contacted authorities in March, reporting her son missing amid an ongoing custody dispute and expressing concern that the boy’s father, 29-year-old Isaiah Harden, would escape the area with him.
Following the tip, the Cleveland Police Department collaborated with the United States Marshals Service SPEAR Unit to track their movements. In May, the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office formally charged Harden with interference with custody, turning the SPEAR Unit’s efforts into a federal fugitive investigation.
Investigators originally followed information that indicated Harden left Ohio and drove through Texas before traveling west. Working on tips that pointed to Southern California, Ohio investigators contacted the Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force for assistance in the search.
Law enforcement police discovered the youngster and detained Harden at a home in the 600 block of Windy Pass in Barstow, California, a desert hamlet roughly halfway between Los Angeles and Vegas.
Following the arrest, the 4-year-old was placed in the custody of San Bernardino County Children and Family Services, and Harden was booked into the San Bernardino County Jail.
“No matter how far away a missing child may end up, the U.S. Marshals Service will not stop searching for them until they are found,” Pete Elliott, U.S. Marshal, “Those who interfere with the proper custody of young children will be found and arrested, no matter how far they flee and attempt to hide. “We’ll find you.”
