A man was apprehended on Sunday after reportedly shouting at and spitting blood on a police officer, according to the Machesney Park Police Department.
Police said officers called to the 7900 block of Shore Drive about 9:23 p.m. for a suspected battery.
When cops arrived, they found a man, later identified as 26-year-old Jakob Kirchner, bleeding from his nose and mouth, according to police.
According to court documents, Kirchner became enraged and began ranting. Officers observed that he had a heavy alcohol stench on his breath and that his speech was slurred.
According to authorities, Kirchner was uncooperative with officers and medical staff attempting to evaluate him.
Police added that when officers sought to speak with Kirchner again, he came “uncomfortably” close to an officer’s face while ranting, causing blood and spit to strike the officer.
According to court filings, the officer warned Kirchner to cease yelling and spitting, but Kirchner allegedly leaned back in, yelling and spitting blood in the officer’s face again.
Kirchner was arrested and charged with aggravated violence on a peace officer.
He is currently being held at the Winnebago County Jail.
