Docs: Man arrested after reported rape on near west side of Indianapolis

A man was arrested after allegedly raping a woman earlier this month at a home on Indianapolis’ near west side.

According to court documents, German Lopez Monecal was accused of:

  • Two counts of rape, each a Level 3 felony
  • One count of criminal confinement, a Level 6 felony
  • One count of intimidation, a Level 6 felony

On September 8, officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a suspected rape investigation in the 3100 block of West Michigan Street.

According to court documents, a woman called to report that a known male, later identified as Monecal, had raped her and was still at home. When cops arrived, the woman reported them she was being held down by Monecal, who was immediately brought into prison.

In an interview with police, the woman stated that she has been living with Monecal since 2021. Two weeks before this incident, the woman informed police she was allegedly held down by Monecal but was able to stop him. Monecal reportedly informed her that if she called the police, “he would kill her,” thus she did not do so.

On the morning of September 8, the woman claimed that Monecal entered her bedroom and raped her. According to the documents, the woman was afraid and waited until Monecal fell asleep before calling law enforcement.

According to the documents, the woman told law enforcement during the interview that Monecal had recently contracted an ailment that caused him to lose his hearing. The victim was eventually taken to a local hospital for a sexual assault examination, and investigators performed a search of the house.

When authorities sought to speak with Monecal, they reportedly wrote to ask him if he wanted to tell detectives what transpired. Monecal “shook his head no,” according to the paperwork, and was taken to the Marion County Jail.

Monecal’s initial hearing is set for Tuesday afternoon. Monecal is not currently bonded as of the publication of this piece.
