An Indianapolis father and son have been charged with felony violence following an alleged assault and stabbing outside a south side bar and grill earlier this year.
Last week, Deshawn Young and his son, Deshawn Young II, were charged with aggravated violence, a Level 3 felony in Marion County Court. The father has also been charged with unauthorized firearm possession.
The allegations come from an alleged incident that happened this summer in the parking lot of That Place Bar on the city’s south side.
Around 1:45 a.m. on June 20, IMPD officers were dispatched to the 3100 block of S. Richardt Avenue to investigate a reported battery. When they arrived, they met with an adult male victim who was in the back of an ambulance being treated by medics.
The victim claimed that a former buddy, known as Young II, assaulted him as he was sitting in his car waiting for friends to come. He claimed that his old friend’s father was also participating in the attack, and the guys were equipped with firearms and knives.
The man claimed that he had just gone to light a cigaret when he was “surprisingly stabbed in the head just above his left eye.” Police later discovered that he had stab wounds, severe swelling, heavy bleeding, and damaged teeth.
Police quickly identified Young and Young II as the two attackers. The victim told authorities that the father and son were outraged over a report that someone was making fun of their relative who died from a drug overdose.
Young, 51, and Young II, 21, were detained on Monday after IMPD K9 officers tracked them down. The two men are currently being held without bond while they await an initial hearing in court, which is slated for Wednesday, Sept. 16, in front of Judge James Osborn.
