A man has been apprehended in connection with two separate stabbings at Miami’s government complex, which left two people hospitalized, according to authorities.
Joel Sanchez-Abreu, 37, was detained on Monday for two counts of aggravated violence, according to Miami-Dade County jail records.
The first incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on July 11 in the courtyard of the Stephen P. Clark Government Center, located at 111 Northwest 1st Street.
According to the police report, surveillance video captured the victim sitting on a bench in the courtyard near the fruit exhibit when the suspect approached him multiple times.
According to the complaint, the victim stated that the man begged him for money to acquire drugs, but he refused, causing the suspect to become furious.
A short time later, the victim claimed the suspect passed by on a bicycle and stabbed him once in the center of his back before escaping, according to the report.
The victim was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center for treatment.
The second incident occurred on the afternoon of September 4, when the defendant approached and sat with a group near the government center’s water fountain benches, according to an arrest report.
The defendant engaged in a physical struggle with the victim and stabbed him in the left shoulder blade before fleeing on a bicycle, according to the complaint.
The sufferer was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment, where a fragment of the blade, thought to be from a tiny box cutter, was discovered in his shoulder blade.
Sanchez-Abreu was arrested on Monday after being discovered riding a bicycle near 1st Street and Northwest 3rd Avenue.
He confessed to both incidents and was booked into jail, according to reports.
