A Fort Lauderdale woman is behind bars in St. Lucie County after authorities tracked down a stolen patrol car and found her nearby wearing a police ballistic vest.
The incident began Tuesday night around 9:40 p.m. when deputies with the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, officers from the Port St. Lucie Police Department, and Florida Highway Patrol troopers received an alert about a stolen Broward Sheriff’s Office vehicle traveling north on Interstate 95. Working in coordination with Broward officials, law enforcement converged near the Gatlin Boulevard exit.
Officers quickly located the marked cruiser, which had been abandoned on the Gatlin Boulevard off-ramp.
While checking the surrounding area, deputies spotted a woman wearing an outer ballistic vest that carried Broward Sheriff’s Office insignia. Officers questioned her and identified her as 42-year-old Shannon Marie Dillon.
Deputies took Dillon into custody without further incident and booked her into the St. Lucie County Jail.
In St. Lucie County, Dillon faces multiple charges, including grand theft of law enforcement equipment, unlawful use of a police badge or law enforcement vehicle, and unlawful possession of four or fewer identification items. She also faces charges of possession or use of drug paraphernalia, possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon, driving with a suspended license, and resisting an officer without violence.
In addition to the local offenses, Dillon faces charges from Broward County for grand theft and grand theft of law enforcement equipment from an authorized emergency vehicle.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities stated that additional information will be released as it becomes available.
