A 77-year-old woman lost her life in a pedestrian crash Wednesday evening in Sterling, leading the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office to launch an investigation.
According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 8:08 p.m. Wednesday to Innovation Avenue near Sully Road after receiving a report that a pedestrian had been struck by a motor vehicle.
Deputies arrived at the scene and identified two vehicles involved in the crash: an SUV and a sedan. Both drivers remained at the scene and sustained no injuries, authorities confirmed.
The pedestrian was identified as Jacqueline Heaps, 77, of Sterling. Authorities pronounced her dead at the scene.
Investigators have not yet released additional details regarding how the two vehicles contributed to the incident or the sequence of events leading to Heaps being struck.
The cause of the crash remained under investigation as of Thursday. The sheriff’s office stated that speed and alcohol do not appear to have been contributing factors at this stage of the investigation.
Authorities are now seeking witnesses or individuals who may have information that could help investigators determine the circumstances of the crash.
