One suspect was taken into custody and three more are wanted in Clackamas County on burglary charges after a home was broken into in Happy Valley, according to sheriff’s deputies.
On Tuesday afternoon, deputies from the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a residence on Southeast 96th after a neighbor contacted 911 to report three people packing stuff into a car from an empty house, who then sped away when confronted.
The neighbor told deputies that the suspects dropped the stuff and left after being told the police had been called. The neighbor reportedly informed deputies that a fourth individual was observed inside the home.
Deputies stated that they searched inside but did not find anyone.
Deputies then stated that a neighbor alerted them to the presence of someone on the roof.
Deputies said they discovered many bags on the ground before launching a drone and using a police dog to seek for the offender. They discovered him nearby in a group of blackberry bushes. He was recognized as Estacada resident Andrew Douglas Escalera, 40.
Estacada was allegedly found with a dagger-point knife, a collapsible baton, and a tiny amount of heroin. Deputies discovered two debit cards with the names of two different people in his wallet.
The bags left on the ground allegedly contained a stolen checkbook, 14 grams of amphetamine crystals, and “burglary tools,” according to authorities. That equipment allegedly included 347 keys and fobs for automobiles, homes, padlocks, and “keys customized to defeat locks.”
Deputies claimed they also discovered pry bars, crowbars, glass breakers, and flashlights.
Escalera was arrested and put into Clackamas County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond on the following charges:
- Second-degree burglary
- Possession of burglary tools
- Unlawful possession of meth
- Three counts of identity theft
- Felon in possession of a weapon
Detectives are also asking for help to find three other suspects:
- Older bald white man with a scruffy beard and wearing a red sweater.
- Two white women in their 30s, one with a face tattoo.
- Driving a white 2002 Cadillac Seville with Oregon license plate 352PDA
