A Massachusetts mother was sentenced after pleading guilty to the death of one of her children.
Jennifer Prudencio, 27, of Chelsea was previously charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment of a child. On April 7, 2024, police arrived at Prudencio’s Spencer Avenue apartment in Chelsea and discovered her three-year-old son, Yael Guardado-Prudencio, unresponsive.
According to NECN, Prudencio left her 3-year-old son, who was pale and vomiting, with her 7 and 8-year-old children while she went to a club in Revere, drank for a few hours, and then slept at her boyfriend’s house in Somerville. The 8-year-old emailed his mother and provided a video, concerned for his 3-year-old brother’s well-being.
Yael was characterized as a bright, joyful, and sweet boy who was taken too soon.
According to Court TV, Prudencio was sentenced above the state recommendations to four to six years in jail, followed by three years probation.
Prudencio’s two remaining children currently reside with Prudencio’s mother.
