1 arrested and 1 at large after Auburn apartment shooting

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a suspect after a gunshot was fired into a area apartment, police said Thursday.

According to officials, deputies arrived to the Colonial Village section of Auburn at 1:20 a.m. Thursday and swiftly determined that no one had been hit by gunfire.

Just before 2 a.m., the Auburn Police Department discovered a car believed to be involved in the shooting near Highway 49 and Fulweiler Avenue in Auburn.

The inquiry led officers to suspect that the person who fired the shots was in the vehicle with a male and a woman. The two guys fled the scene, but the woman remained in the vehicle, and officials say she was assaulted by the suspect.

One of the men, 25-year-old Fredrick Lawson Bryant, was found nearby with a.40 caliber Glock pistol. Bryant was arrested and taken to the Placer County Jail on accusations of conspiracy.

Officers searched for several hours with ground, aircraft, and K-9 teams before cutting back around 6:30 a.m. The suspect, who is still at large, is described as a Black man in his mid-20s, 5’9″ tall, with a medium build. He was last spotted wearing light-colored slacks and a white shirt near Highway 49 and Fulweiler Avenue.

Officials indicated that law police will remain present in the area as the search is ongoing. Anyone with information on the event is encouraged to call the Placer County Sheriff’s Office at 530-886-5375 or Auburn Police Department at 530-823-4234.
