The driver Gresham police suspected struck and killed a roadway flagger in Northeast Gresham on August 31 before fleeing the scene turned herself in to police on Wednesday, officials say.
Gresham police said their investigators issued a warrant for the arrest of Courtney McKee, 26, on Tuesday. McKee brought herself in to the Vancouver Police Department on Wednesday.
The probe stems from a hit-and-run that killed 50-year-old Miguel Jimenez, who was working as a flagger in a Northeast Gresham construction zone.
After McKee reportedly departed the scene, Jimenez was brought to OHSU and placed on life support. Jimenez’s family made the tough decision to remove him from life support after it became evident that he would not recover.
Gresham officials said they filmed the fatal crash on city-owned cameras, which allowed them to identify McKee’s license plate number and vehicle.
Five days later, Vancouver police discovered McKee’s car at a Vancouver apartment complex.
After police and criminalists from the Vehicular Crimes team gathered evidence from McKee’s automobile, detectives and VCT members took weeks to execute search warrants, examine digital evidence, and evaluate physical evidence left at the scene. During the investigation, officials identified McKee as a suspect.
McKee has turned herself in, and officials say she will be taken to Oregon to face charges of first-degree manslaughter, DUII, failure to execute driver responsibilities resulting in death, careless driving, and reckless endangerment.
