A Texas woman was arrested after police said she drove an SUV through the Ocean Drive bike lane before fighting policemen who attempted to apprehend her in Miami Beach.
Brianna Michelle Castillo, 26, was arrested Sunday evening following the altercation.
According to a Miami Beach Police arrest record, officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Ocean Drive shortly before 6 p.m. after receiving a report of a black Dodge SUV speeding at about 40 mph in the bike lane.
Officers arrived to find Castillo seated in the driver’s seat of an SUV that had been improperly parked nearby.
According to police, Castillo exited the truck and began walking away from cops.
As they approached her, she opened a can of alcoholic beverage and began drinking from it, according to the report.
Officers stated Castillo was also carrying two empty cans and appeared to be intoxicated, with bloodshot, watery eyes, the odour of alcohol on her breath, and aggressive behaviour.
As officers attempted to arrest Castillo, police said she wrenched her right arm away and struck a closed fist at an officer’s head.
The cop got out of the way before Castillo was taken down.
The confrontation continued as officers led Castillo to a police vehicle, according to the complaint.
Castillo allegedly spit repeatedly at numerous cops, who moved out of the path to prevent being hit.
Officers from Miami Beach Police Headquarters placed a spit mask over Castillo’s head before transporting her to jail.
During a search, Castillo allegedly attempted to elbow one officer before kicking three others in the shin, foot, and leg.
According to investigators, officers discovered a Taser in Castillo’s pocket, as well as pepper spray tied to the keys she was holding.
A review of Castillo’s records revealed a past criminal conviction in Texas.
She is facing a number of accusations, including felony possession of a firearm or ammunition, battery on a police officer, violently resisting an officer, assault on a police officer, and disorderly intoxication.
She is also facing an open container offence and a charge of driving without a legal licence.
